Leslie Klinger Shaw: Trump’s truth, he doesn’t care about us
On July 8, in an interview with NBC, Donald Trump dismissed criticism of his candidacy by Jonah Goldberg as being ridiculous because Trump has more money than Goldberg. I challenge all of my working friends to really think about what this means for us. Currently, Donald Trump is No. 2 in the polls among conservative candidates, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.
Trump does not think we matter because we are not billionaires. Most politicians pretend to care what people like me think. I have to listen to speech after speech and interview after interview from millionaires and billionaires jockeying for power positions tell me how much they admire people like me – the average American going to work every day.
I have to listen to these same people tell the poor how much they care about them, while it is people like me staffing the food banks and the women’s shelters and the pregnancy centers, on the front lines offering practical help as best we can to those in need. I guess we should congratulate him for being honest.
