Terry McConnell: Cartoon shows the shame of selling almonds

The cartoon by Jack Oman (July 9) was so “on point”! It characterized the adulterous attack on our community and our virtually unprotected groundwater. Thanks Jack!

Trees drink, money made, China eats. Meanwhile at least three more domestic wells have gone dry in Valley Home and in the Knights Ferry areas. The waiting time for a new domestic well? Eight months to a year and no “local” water trucks to bring water for horses, cattle or other animals while land conversions for more trees and more LAFCO approved annexations occur. Oh yes, there is a plan for groundwater management in the “future.” Meanwhile, the average community member is acceptable collateral damage.

Stop the insanity!

Terry McConnell, Oakdale
