Mary Jane Cullum: It doesn’t make any sense to water football fields

Water restrictions have been imposed in all of California, but yet Modesto’s City Council saw fit to approve exemptions for high school football fields. They say it is for safety purposes. High school football, although fun, is not a necessity of life – water is. Player’s hitting the dry grass is not any different than baseball players on a dirt infield or hockey players on ice. My son lives in a prominent area of Modesto and his lawn is yellow, as are most of his neighbors. They are doing their part to conserve water. We all flush toilets less, put buckets in the shower so not to waste excess down the drain and then use that to water plants garden, etc. No more running water while brushing teeth or washing face and hands, but don’t let the football field go without water.

Come on Modesto City Council, use your common sense!

Mary Jane Cullum, Denair
