Humorous take on mask debate
Aside from the fact that making masks gave me something extra to do during the height of our pandemic, I found additional benefits. They added color to my pale, winter face; they hide many of my wrinkles, so someone might momentarily mistake me for a younger person — at a distance; I can continue talking to myself in public, as well as singing to the good songs playing in stores, as long as I do it quietly; if I have something in my teeth, no one will notice. So many pluses!

Goriel for Modesto Council
I have traveled around the world as an executive chef, opening restaurants and running businesses. I am endorsing Naramsen Goriel for Modesto City Council. He walked up to my home with pamphlets and a conversation. We started talking and I realized that he has a goal for this community. We talked about repairing our roads, getting the homeless help, more housing and getting rid of trash on our streets.
I can see just by talking to him that he’s the first one in the building and the last to leave. This is what I retained from my conversation with this hardworking man, putting in the extra time so we all have extra.

Esquer for Turlock mayor
The lack of effective leadership from our current mayor has given Turlock a Bublack eye.
It was shocking to learn Turlock has had eight people serve as city manager over the last four years. If she cannot show she can work with city managers, perhaps she can effectively work directly with Turlock’s city department heads? Guess again. Of the 10 department heads, every single one has gone away. This is ineffective leadership on a scale that demands replacement. And lastly, one of the city managers who was forced out was the one who worked to bring Amazon and its new jobs and millions in sales tax to Turlock.
For the future of Turlock, let us all vote for a change in Turlock’s mayor: Bublak out, and Esquer in.

Bublak deserves re-election
We are very pleased to support Turlock Mayor Amy Bublak for re-election. Mayor Bublak is the wisest choice. By hiring a city attorney and an experienced city manager, Mayor Bublak has created an executive team that has balanced the budget, fixed roads, closed down unsafe homeless encampments, put more firefighters and police officers on the streets, and brought new jobs to Turlock.
Let’s keep Mayor Bublak in office so she, the council, and her executive team can keep Turlock moving forward in a positive direction.

Nichols for Turlock school board
I urge my neighbors to vote for Jeff C. Nichols for Turlock Unified Schools Board, Area 4.
An Area 4 resident, I have observed our board representation for the past four years; I assure voters that there is no one more qualified than Jeff Nichols. Jeff has the necessary experience, education and training to best represent parents and students. His expertise on students with disabilities and with mental health challenges adds significantly to his value on the board. I greatly appreciate Jeff’s emphasis on inclusion and wellness for all our students.
After observing him speak, reading through his published literature, and hearing him answer questions during multiple community forums, I believe he has demonstrated a remarkable understanding of the importance of considering all stakeholders across the district — parents with children, administration, educators, district staff and, most importantly, the students themselves.
His message to parents and concerned citizens: “Students Matter. Parents Matter. Educators and district staff matter.” And Jeff Nichols has remained resolute in stating, “Progressive social agenda items do not belong in taxpayer-funded public schools.”

Blame belongs with Democrats
Recently I put up a political sign and it was torn down within 24 hours. It read, “Stop voting for Democrats. Haven’t you had enough of their failed policies?” The reverse side read, “Vote no on all propositions.” I wonder which failing Democrat tore my sign down. Democrats can’t stand up (for) the failing policies of Biden and Newsom, which have given us the highest inflation rate and highest lack of confidence in our government in years.
