LeeAnn Davis: Why didn’t state ban fireworks during the drought?
I believe that state officials and leaders from the governor on down have done California a great disservice. We are in a state of drought that we have not seen in many years. Yet they have allowed firework stands to go up all over the place. I know it’s up to each county, but the governor could have pushed not to allow them.
Groups need money from the fundraisers, but there are better ways to raise it. The percent they receive is nothing compared to what they could earn by selling tri-tip sandwiches, hot dogs or sending out young people to do lawn work or housekeeping and light maintenance. With youthes selling services, all money can go directly into their club. Plus, they learn how to work for others and earn extra money.
Our state leaders have a big responsibility for any fires that occur over the 4th of July. If fireworks were outlawed until we are out of the drought, any fireworks going off outside of the official sites could be stopped faster because all would be illegal.
