Mike Moran: Supreme Court really doesn’t have ‘last’ say on marriage
So I understand the Supreme Court of the United States has judged marriage between same-sex individuals is now legal in all 50 states. This is now the law of the land. So that ends it, right?
Not really. Another judge, One who is exceedingly greater than the ones who made today’s decision, has said from the beginning, “A man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife and they will become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). The “wife” is understood to be a woman. So this Judge will have the final say on the judgment from Washington and ultimately on every person’s life – mine and yours – regardless of our opinion (including mine). So its not over until He says it’s over.
There is no reason for panic, hate speech, worry or single-issue obsession if we keep our focus on Him and His revealed truth. “Love covers a multitude of sins” – so let’s keep loving others just like our leader.
Disagree with me or today’s decision if you must, but make every effort to do so respectfully. This is especially directed toward the faith community, which, at times, responds without heart or forethought. We need to do better.
Mike Moran, Manteca
