Marvin Levitt: Do water restrictions really apply to all?

Yes, my lawn, like my neighbors’ lawns, is dying. We are trying to abide by the rules set upon us by the know-it-all politicians. My front lawn, all 900 square feet of it, has a 10-percent slope to the gutter. My sprinklers are maintained so as to have the least amount of runoff. No watering concrete. For years, in hot weather, on the three-day watering schedule, my sprinklers went twice daily, morning and evening, to give the morning water a chance to soak in before getting the second dose and least runoff.

My lawn, which in an investment in the neighborhood, is dying and I can do nothing about it.

I thought the city of Modesto was following the state mandate. Maybe not. I notice the golf course in Sacramento looks much better than my lawn. I wonder how they do it and still comply with the rules. Also the Athletics’ and the Giant’s fields look lush compared to my lawn. How do they do it?

I believe I am actually using more water, trying to save my investment, than I used last year just using common sense.
