Donald Ulrich: Pope, bishops get it backwards on climate change

Re “Morality of climate change” (Opinions, June 25): The commentary in The Bee about the morality of climate change concerned me. The article stated in 1990 we were concerned about, “the gradual depletion of the ozone layer.” Now its 2015 and the ozone layer is in fine shape.

The article states, “The Central Valley’s air quality is among the worst in the nation.” This is not surprising; we live in a basin and stuff collects in basins. However, our air quality is much improved since 1990. At significant expense we have improved the air quality. The article talks about global warming. Seems to me the summers are getting cooler.

The article’s issue is “the morality of climate change.” It states the cost of pollution and global warming will affect the poor more than the rich, which is morally wrong. I would say the EPA budget and the tremendous cost to society to implement their edicts is morally wrong. Some of that tremendous expense could be spent helping the poor become rich.

Donald Ulrich, Denair
