Bruce R. Frohman: Guns not the answer to living in fear
Re “Control bad people, not our guns” (Letters, June 23) and the13-year-old advocate against gun control: The young citizen needs to read another perspective.
I have never owned a gun. For me, the risk of ownership is greater than the benefit. I don’t live in constant fear, as many gun owners do. I don’t worry about getting shot by criminals: I won’t give them a reason to shoot me. I don’t belong to a gang. Criminals won’t take me down while reaching for a gun.
Because I don’t own a gun, I have no worry about a gun getting stolen to commit crimes or worry about accidental discharge killing someone I love.
My main worry: crazy criminals who have guns because of opposition to sensible gun control. The issuance of guns is easier to control than the behavior of people.
I don’t want to take your parents’ guns, but I want to know that owners are responsible. As a good citizen, I like having the option of owning a gun.
We live in a civilized society. Police protection is adequate; it can never be perfect. Don’t let fear dictate your behavior.
