Ingrid Balisha: Don’t blame guns for hate, violence
Re “Obama says church shooting shows need for reckoning on guns” (Online, June 18): First, President Obama’s declaration that this kind of mass violence doesn’t regularly happen in other advanced nations is simply untrue. One just need do a five-minute Google search to verify that this kind of horror happens often and in countries with oppressive gun restrictions.
Second, “the reckoning” that needs to happen is with him and his party. He and the Democrats, since time immemorial, maintain electoral viability by fomenting divisions and hate based on race, gender, income and opportunity, just to name a few.
Third, a gun is an inanimate object that can’t be moved to action by the left’s hateful rhetoric. The people who commit these crimes, however, can. Especially when you have a compliant liberal media amplifying their divisive message. And yes, the media has a liberal bias. Research to which party the majority self-identify with and to which candidates they donate money.
Therefore, may I suggest, we could and should blame this kind of violence on Obama, the Democrats and their inciting rhetoric – not the gun.
