Cherise Day: Retiree should not have sought Bee’s help in dealing with MPD

Re “That’s not pot in Modestan’s backyard” (Page B1, June 7): It appears as though I’m the only Modesto resident who is offended, not by the police, but by the 80-year-old former MPD volunteer, Wayne Seawright, who complained about MPD officers performing their due diligence. If anyone should know how the law works, it should be someone who was involved with the very agency he’s complaining about. It sure didn’t stop him from dropping names!

Shame on Seawright for going so far as contacting The Bee for such a frivolous matter. I’m sure Seawright would be the first to call MPD if someone had an actual marijuana grow in his neighborhood. The smell is so pungent, especially in the summer, it would make him sick and nauseous. I suppose only then would he realize why the police try to abate these grows in a civilized manner. All he had to do was be patient enough to wait for a return call from police or to drop off pictures of his backyard for proof. Me-thinks Mr. Seawright wants to remain in some sort of spotlight, rather than retire with quiet, respectful dignity. I applaud MPD for trying to abate marijuana grows in a cost-effective manner.

Cherise Day, Modesto
