Bruce Campbell: Don’t want to see green farm lawns? Don’t visit
Re “Farmers’ lawns remain green” (Letters, June 15): To the Salida resident who is cutting back on water but resents farm homes that have green yards: What happens when your city pump runs out? The owners of a pump on a farm or country home have to pay all of the costs of replacing a pump or drilling a new well. As for resenting profits from almonds or milk, the dairy industry in California is not necessarily making a profit – depending on feed costs and milk prices. Almond growers bear all the risk of the market. There’s no guarantee of profits any year. Can’t we give them permission to water their own lawns?
Does anyone question you how you choose to spend your money, as you do them? Green envy over their lawns? Then paint your dead grass. You can also save gas and pollution by not driving out in the country.
