Marvin Dole: Altering Prop 13 will increase taxes on small business

There is proposed legislation before the California Senate, SCA 5,that will dramatically change Proposition 13 creating a “split roll.” Effectively, what this bill would do is increase property taxes on commercial properties costing thousands of small businesses that provide precious jobs to fellow Californians.

Increasing costs to business owners who provide jobs is a major step in the wrong direction. Rather than increasing costs, why not check the budgets of the state, counties and local communities to see where money is being wasted on useless programs or useless government jobs so that we do not have to soak these business owners who are already struggling to stay in business.
