Damon Woods: Forum will allow residents to question water use

On June 25 at 7 p.m. at the Knights Ferry Community Center there will be an opportunity to express your concerns and to ask questions to the powerful people who are in control of our water. There will be an open mic, or you can write question on a 3-by-5 card and have a moderator ask them. Officials attending: Supervisor Bill O’Brien, Trinitas LLC principal partner Ryan Patton, Oakdale Irrigation District general manager Steve Knell, County Water Advisory Committee director Walt Ward, a hydrologist, and a member of the Oakdale City Council appointed by Mayor Pat Paul.

It’s no secret that: a) Land is still being purchased and almond orchards are being planted at a rapid pace; b) Deep-well permits are still being granted; c) Domestic wells are still going dry; d) This is the 4th year of a severe drought with water restrictions being imposed on non-farmer citizens.

Will it be too late? What realistically can be done now? What about pesticides, harvesting dust, dry wells, etc., and our future as property owners?

Damon Woods, Oakdale
