Letters to the editor | Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020: Senate impeachment trial is a sham
A trial without witnesses?
No witnesses testified in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump. Anyone who has watched an episode of “Perry Mason” or “Law and Order” knows that trials have witnesses. The Republican senators who voted against hearing from witnesses chose cowardice over integrity because of their fear of, or allegiance to, President Trump. This denied the people’s ability to hear the rest of the evidence, which was covered up.
I predict that the president will not debate the Democratic Party’s nominee in order to cover up his ignorance, incompetence, and inability to debate in a civil manner. I wonder what absurd excuse will be used?

Shame on Senate vote
Senate Republicans just assassinated Lady Liberty with their “no” vote to witnesses.

School counselors deserve thanks
Feb. 3 to 7 is National School Counselors Week. I’d like to honor the many school counselors across our county, state and country who strive to provide social and emotional support to the most vulnerable in our care.
Empire Union School District had foresight 34 years ago when they committed to hiring credentialed school counselors in elementary and middle schools. Thanks to the board, teachers, staff, and families, funding continues and Empire Union can boast one counselor per elementary site and 1.5 counselors at the middle school.

Hypocrisy reigned at debate
Great to see such an eager and involved crowd at “Debate at The State.” Thanks to both The Bee and the State Theatre.
Interesting irony when Republican candidates accuse Rep. Harder of being under Speaker Pelosi’s thumb, seeing as how they belong to a party that Tsar Trump controls from top to bottom and punishes anyone for even the slightest deviation. A once principled party that’s morphed into an ATM for the Trump clan.

Harder gets my vote
I’ve lived in the Central Valley for many years. During this time, politicians for District 10 have spent more time in Washington than here.
In 2018, Josh Harder was elected, a genuine, transparent man who cares for constituents. Rep. Harder has held 18 public town halls across the Valley for more than 1,700 attendees. Harder is genuine; the real deal. He returned over $500,000 to Central Valley families owed by the VA, Medicare and other federal agencies.
Harder should have the backing of both political parties. He presents himself as a person willing to cross lines to get the job done. He’s honest, represents the future and we need this vision from our people we send to Washington to represent our needs. November is almost upon us; this is the time to keep the values we have. My family and I are voting for Rep. Harder for 2020.
