Mike Rey Gascon: Term limits would improve our Congress
All the bad news going on with one politician by the name of Dennis Hastert, former House speaker and candidate for President. Yes, you read that right – president of good old US of A.
Since 2008, I have been fortunate and privileged to have my letters printed in The Bee, some 15 of them. Hopefully, they have helped readers in some way. There are many problems in Congress. The only way these problems can be remedied or curtailed is for terms in Congress to be limited to 10 years. The President gets two terms (8 years), why not limit Congress?
If I’m not mistaken, they get $200,000 a year in salary, the best medical coverage and retirement. Even when they eventually get caught in wrongdoing, they retire as millionaires.
So make the terms shorter. I get tired of listening to politicians in their 70s, 80s and 90s, still hanging in there and, in most cases, helping themselves to more money. Let’s get a petition and put this issue of term limits for Congress on the ballot and stop this nonsense.
