Chris Hansen: Right-to-die law treats humans like animals

Is there anything wrong with the right to die legislation that Gov. Jerry Brown is about to sign? That depends on your point of view.

If you believe that people are evolved animals who ought to have the same rights as animals, then you won’t mind if our physicians become our vets, patients become pets and grandma is treated as Rover! If you believe that humans are made in God’s image, then the right to die quickly becomes the right to kill!

My sense of holy justice demands that we protect life. My sense of holy compassion demands that we alleviate suffering, which drives the right-to-die movement down this misguided path toward the death of humanity. When Gov. Brown signs this legislation, the right-to-die movement will, quite literally, be going to the dogs!
