Raymond Ghiotto: Sacrifices, valor of D-Day should never be forgotten
You’re a young man far from home; you look out and see hundreds of ships with thousands of men onboard. You’re flying in a glider, sweat running down the back of your neck and your buddies are oh so quiet. Then it happens, the ships let loose with a deafening barrage of fire power; you’re scared but you have to keep it inside, just like everybody else. In a blink of a eye the sky lights up like its the Fourth of July, but it’s not – they are trying to shoot you down; they want to kill you and everybody on board. The the glider is let loose you and the glider and your buddies are on your own. Your glider hits the ground, and out you run asking God to protect you and all the other soldiers.
The noise is deafening, men lying everywhere, sons of someone back home who will never see them again. It’s D-Day, God help me make it through this day.
That day we all paid a huge price for freedom. Let us never forget the day our soldiers, sailors and airmen made the world a better place.
