Linda Cover: Bike lane on overpass dangerous, useless

I admire the nicely painted bike lanes throughout Modesto. However, I believe the concrete monstrosity on the Briggsmore/Carpenter overpass was a very bad idea.

I live on the west side of Highway 99 and I travel over this overpass several times a week. In the past several months that this bike lane has been in use, I have seen a total of three bicyclists using it. Judging from the many concrete chunks missing from this structure and the black tire rubbings, it makes me believe I am not the only driver who has ruined a tire and wheel while negotiating the hairpin turn onto North 9th Street. I look forward to the day when I approach the overpass and see city workers with jackhammers demolishing this out-of-place and dangerous curbing thus creating a much safer painted bike lane.
