Byron Hisey: Volcanoes cancel all our anti-emissions efforts

I have just read with interest about Senate Bill 185, authored by another Liberal democrat which would prohibit PERS and STRS from any investments in a thermal coal company. Now we in California have a cap-and-trade “tax” so we all can “feel the pain of global warming.”

Were is all the money from this tax going? How much better off will we be? A great article by a professor emeritus of earth sciences at the University of Melbourne points out that a volcanic eruption in Iceland in just four days negated every single effort made worldwide in the past 5 years to control CO2 emissions. You know the carbon-dioxide we are trying to suppress – it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for humans and animals. In closing, he points out there are 200 active volcanoes on the planet putting out this stuff. It’s no longer global warming, but now climate change.

Any and all new government “tax schemes” will do nothing to stop the volcanoes from erupting.

Byron Hisey, Newman
