Hans Roth: Minimum wage won’t allow for a steak dinner

I’m 81 years old. To supplement my Social Security income, I work part-time at minimum wage of $9 per hour. After all the deductions, I clear around $7 per hour. Gas in Murphys is $3.73 per gallon. We went shopping at Save Mart the other day and I thought it would be nice to have a steak for dinner since we hadn’t had one in a long time. The steak was $15.95 (for one). I would have had to work more than 2 hours to buy that one steak.

Thank you, Mr. Obama; your plan to “level the playing field” isn’t working. Needless to say, no steak dinner, just more chicken until feathers grow out our ears.

Hans Roth, Murphys
