Jacqueline Ochoa: Many things technology cannot teach today’s students

We are all aware about the advancing technology in schools. Schools in the Central Valley and Modesto, starting this new school year, will be giving Chromebooks to students. It was explained how these Chromebooks will be checked out and will be for students to use at school and at home. Students will be turning everything in electronically. The students seem thrilled.

Will this actually help students? With all the technology advancing we become more and more dependent on it. It’s actually quite shocking how few students now can address a letter correctly; now imagine future generations, where all they use are laptops in school, internet and email? Are they actually learning when they’re just easily surfing the internet for answers? Helpful things like checking out books, writing letters will all be replaced with clicks.

Jacqueline Ochoa, Central Valley High School, Ceres
