Ann Miners: Bible forbids many things commonly done today
Re “Approval of sin worse than the act” (Letters, May 18): In a discussion on marriage, the author of the letter does not approve of same-sex marriage because, in the Bible, God says same-sex acts are wrong. However, there are many things that God says in the Bible are wrong to which we no longer adhere. For instance, the Bible says not to wear clothing woven of two kinds of material in Leviticus 19:19. Deuteronomy 22:12 says to make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear. There are lots of other examples. My question is how do we choose to break numerous rules in the Bible and then decide which rules are important so they must be kept?
Is there any justification for saying something is wrong because the Bible says it is wrong? In today’s world, many things forbidden in the Bible are accepted now.
