Wayne Kirkbride: TPP will benefit only Wall Street and corporations
What’s wrong with Obama? With his insistence that the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership is in the best interest of U.S. citizens, Obama truly disappoints and confuses me. The details should scare all but the wealthiest and Wall Street corporations, present and up-and-coming lobbyists and those in Congress wedded to large donations from corporate America.
In the words of critic Lori Wallach, of Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch group, TPP is truly a grandiose grab for power, creating an unprecedented level of corporate rule over the economies, governments and people of 12 Pacific rim nations, and us. If enacted it will in effect create a quasi-government in and of itself, run by corporate giants throughout the world. Its power will usurp our democratic system of checks and balances: Congress will not be permitted to offer amendments – only voting yes or no to the total package no matter how odious the provisions. The White House is allowed to launch negotiations, set the agreement terms and sign the trade deal, leaving out Congress.
Follow the money if you want to see who benefits and who loses with this deal.
