Mitch Rudoff: Resourceful ways to recycle water in a drought
Re “This family doing its part” (Letters, May 10): I really appreciate the resourcefulness the writer’s family has put into action to save water. I’ve been doing a few things regarding reusing water. First, recall this phrase from 1977: “If it’s yellow, let it mellow; if it’s brown ...”
One idea I’ve put into action is picking up plastic water bottles and taking them back to my place and using the remaining water on the plants. (It’s amazing to me that a person will spend money on water or a cola, take a sip, then discard the rest.)
I moved to California in 1975 and I got steady employment with the Water Quality Control Board in Oakland as a clerk. This might not seem like a big deal, but one of the items on my job description was to proofread tentative and final orders written by sanitary engineers. I absorbed what these engineers were doing, to a degree.
In terms of recycling, I found a great use for the plastic bags The Bee is delivered in. It’s just the right size to store socks, coupons, buttons and other things. Either keep them for use, donate them or recycle.
