Leticia Clemente: Easy do-it-yourself projects cuts down on trash
Have you ever thought about what you throw away? You might think it is just trash, but did you ever think in turning it into something else? You can turn a plastic milk jug into a recyclable bird house or a watering can. A simple plastic bottle can be turned into a sprinkler just by making holes on the side of the plastic bottle and connecting it to the water hose. There you have it, an easy do-it-yourself project that didn’t cost you a penny and kept something out of the trash. There are many more DIY projects that can be done with plastics. By up-cycling you are lowering the amount of plastic being thrown away. Plastic bottles make up about 2 percent of landfill waste. You can help make the environment a better place by not throwing away much, but creating something new instead.
