Bob Gould: Obama’s annual deficit has fallen every year

Re “Democrats will do anything for votes” (Letters, May 17): A recent letter complains about the debt increase under President Obama. That’s his opinion, but he ought to look at the facts. Each year the debt changes by adding that year’s existing deficit. Every President inherits a deficit. It was very high the year Obama was elected because the previous president had just destroyed the world’s economy. Under Obama, the amount added to the deficit has decreased every year. Under Reagan and Bush I, the annual deficit increased 12 years in a row. Under Clinton, the additional deficit decreased every year. Under Bush 2, it increased six times. Final score, Democrats 14 down, zero up, under Republicans 2 down, 18 up. These are the facts!
