Josue Lopez: If you don’t stop racism, it will never end
Racism has always been around; it is an evil which endures in our society. Despite apparent advances and even significant changes in the last two decades, the reality of racism remains the same. What would it take to change this society?
Many people say they want change, but when this opportunity is offered we reject it. A lot of us disagree with racism but yet we discriminate. We don’t deny that changes have been made, that laws have been passed, but we deny the ugly features of racism that mar our society. Waiting for a generation to die, and then things will be better doesn’t take into account the ideology that is certainly being passed down to the new generation, such as being taught to fear black men or assume Latinos are not citizens. As long as our language continues to uplift one race over others, the new generation will never change.
When is it going to be enough? When are we going to get tired of it?
