Billy G. Bailey: Recirculating hot-water pump could save millions of gallons
With this water shortage, I can tell you how California homeowners can save millions of gallons of water every day, and the state could help by giving a good rebate to homeowners for purchasing a circulation pump. This would also save money on water and gas bills.
Most homes in California have hot-water heaters installed in their garages with their bathrooms on the other end of the home or upstairs. If you want hot water for a bath, to shave, etc., you let the water run until it is hot, this wastes approximately 2 1/2 gallons every time you use the hot water in the bathroom. Just think of the millions of gallons of water wasted and think how it would help the water shortage throughout California.
Homeowners can have instant hot water in their bathrooms by having a circulating pump installed on their hot water heater, they can be purchased at most hardware stores.
