Florence Velthoen: Recirculating heater would save water
Re “New water restrictions anticipated” (Page A1, April 28): In the morning paper was the city of Modesto’s Drought Contingency Plan listing all the ways we can (and hopefully will) conserve water. I would like to add one step that will save hundreds, maybe thousands, of gallons per year.
My house is 3,200 square feet. The hot-water heater is at the front of the house and the master bath at the rear. Getting the hot water to that bathroom can easily take 3 to 4 minutes, in the winter maybe even more. I suggest that all new construction be equipped with a hot water circulating heater or two hot water heaters, one in front and one in back. My previous house was a multi-level and my husband installed the circulating heater. Hot water on the top floor was instantaneous. Sound like a good plan?
