Penny Binney: Garden Club does enormous good for Modesto
Modesto Garden Club has been beautifying Modesto with trees and flowers since 1924. Volunteers are recruited to help with civic beautification projects the second Thursday of the month at our general Garden Club meeting. We usually have 250 members attend these meetings. Our projects include 21 school gardens, 18 therapeutic boxes (3-feet by 3-feet), extended-care facilities, the 20-foot flower clock on K Street, the Modesto Arch, McHenry Mansion, six scholarships for $1,500 ... and the list goes on. (See Modesto Garden Club website: www.modestogardenclub.org).
Did you know Modesto Garden Club, Inc., is the largest garden club in the United States with 570 members?
Unhappy downtown merchant, please get your facts together before you challenge the Modesto Garden Club. We do a lot of good for this town, and with our money. Happy to be Modesto Garden Club member.
Penny Binney, Past President, Modesto Garden Club, Inc. and Valley Lode District Director, Modesto
