Kyle Schneider: Aspiring entrepreneur doesn’t believe in ag land mitigation
I hope the mayors stick to their guns and replace Matt Beekman on LAFCO. I’m a 25-year-old renter and aspiring entrepreneur. My friends and I want to buy a new home some day and can’t understand why LAFCO wants to make us pay farmers to keep their land in farming. LAFCO’s ag mitigation fee would cost us new home buyers thousands of dollars for our first home. What about us young people, think about giving us an opportunity to buy into the American Dream. No one else has paid for ag mitigation. If this is so important, everyone should pay. I just can’t see the justification in penalizing us. Farmers can farm forever as far as I’m concerned. And if they don’t want to sell to builders, that’s OK, too.
