Tom and Katie Gain: VA care extensive and excellent
There have been so many negative things written about the care veterans receive at VA hospitals, so we decided to share our experiences just this month.
My husband is Marine Corps veteran, having joined the service right out of high school in 1944. He has been seeing an eye doctor at the Livermore VA facility. Because more extensive treatment was needed, his VA doctor recommended we go to the VA facility in Palo Alto. He had an excellent eye doctor there who agreed cataract-glaucoma surgery was necessary.
We spent two days and nights there. Because we live such a distance away, we stayed free of charge in the very fine Defenders Lodge, on the VA grounds. The room was clean and everything was provided.
The staff was exceptionally helpful and there were shuttle drivers to take us around this enormous facility.
We recommend the VA hospitals in both Livermore and Palo Alto very highly. We are very thankful for the good care we received.
My husband is a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps who served in the Pacific during WWII, mostly on Tinian Island. Semper fi!
