Mark Jensen: Symphony did justice to Russia’s magnificent composers

We attended Friday night’s Symphony concert at the Gallo Center, featuring several pieces by Russian composers. The Orchestra was simply magnificent. They opened with an overture by Shostakovich, violin soloist Dylana Jenson gave a virtuoso performance of a difficult Prokofiev concerto, and the highlight of the evening was Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. If you haven’t been to see the Modesto Symphony lately, I encourage you to attend a show. The Modesto Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Lockington, is the equal of many big city orchestras. We are lucky to have such a fine group of musicians performing here in Modesto.

Mark Jensen, Modesto
