Don Goursky: Democrats only want to coddle criminals, putting us in danger

Re “Tough talk isn’t the answer to cutting crime” (Page 7A, Dec. 27): However, it is a good start. Then follow up with tough enforcement and incarceration. The article indicates that “habitual criminals and drug dealers need to be off the streets.” This is good because once confined/controlled, the easier rehab is. The article suggests the Republicans’ theme has been to throw more people in jail, but didn’t have solutions for rehab. At least the GOP is for being tough on crime and criminals.

The article states, “There does not exist a politician who does not want to get tough on crime,” to which I would say except here in California. Gov. Jerry Brown and all the other liberal politicians pushed hard for Propositions 47 and 57 and AB109, saying this was good reform and would make us safer. It failed. It led to changing many laws (felonies to misdemeanors) and releasing many violent criminals from prison. Once released there is no control and no chance of rehab.

The Democrats’ theme is to release criminals, not hold them accountable. Crime is up, homelessness and mental problems are up. Our politicians have violated their oaths of office. Vote these types of politicians out.
