Shivaugn Alves: Denham has made enough off us; elect TJ Cox

A binding thread for many of us here in the Central Valley is the cultivation of a sense of community, compassion for others’ well-being, and a shared hope that we will continue to improve as a region with dedication and hard work.

That said, it is unfortunate that our current congressperson, Jeff Denham, has continued for the last two decades making self-serving decisions during his time in elected office, profiting by “representing” us.

One area of contention is his consistent support of fossil fuels. Within the past year he has sided with choices to allow oil rigs on our pristine coastlines, drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge, reinstatement of dirty coal and a solar panel tariff. Are we then shocked to learn that his bread and butter company, Denham Plastics of Salinas, relies on oil?

People have awoken to acknowledge that we don’t have to settle for a career politician who has long mastered the skill of double-speak and fear-mongering. CA-10 is ripe with authentic leaders who have made helping people their life, one being of the highest caliber: TJ Cox, who myself and many others are proud to support.

Shivaugn Alves, Patterson
