Betty Johnson: Finding a moment grace in the grocery checkout line
Last Friday I stepped in at Sprouts in McHenry Village for some groceries. I got in line to pay and a nice young man was ahead of me with a cute little girl in his cart. He nodded and told me to go ahead of him. I gratefully accepted as I am noticeably elderly and was getting pretty tired. As the checker was ringing up my purchases the young man quietly stepped up to me and said he would like to pay for my groceries. Of course, I said, “You don’t have to do that.” But he was insistent and told me he had been blessed and he wanted to pass it on, so I allowed him to pay.
I should have asked for his name but I was busy keeping back tears and just thanked him again. There are many wonderful people around and I just want to tell people about it.
