Jeff Burda: Instead of gimmicks, California should restructure tax system

For decades Democrats have wanted millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share. In California, the Democrats have raised income taxes on its wealthiest to the highest levels in the country (through a variety of bait-and-switch tactics). Now, because of the new Tax Act of 2017, California millionaires and billionaires will pay even more. And Sacramento is outraged!

Several responses are in the works, including allowing the wealthy to characterize their California tax payments as “donations.” The hypocrisy is incredible. California needs to restructure its tax code to stop its reliance on a small percentage of residents. Will Sacramento address the issue? Not until those shouldering the tax burden start leaving – which will be soon.
