Wayne Adler: Stand up for your constituents, Rep. Denham, and sign petition
Congressman Jeff Denham needs to be a real leader when it comes to helping the Dreamers in our district and across the country.
On TV and in our district, Rep. Denham is just paying lip service to supporting a clean Dream Act. Even though he is a co-sponsor, I firmly believe there is more he can and should be doing to ensure that a clean Dream Act is passed.
True leadership would be signing the “discharge petition,” which would allow the Dream Act to bypass the committee and force a vote on the House floor. This petition only needs 22 more signatures and our Congressman should be one of them. True leadership would be advocating against his colleagues’ hardline immigration plan that doesn’t offer Dreamers a path to citizenship.
This is a critical issue for me and our community. We all know a Dreamer. They are our neighbors, our students and our business owners. It’s time for Congressman Denham to show true leadership on this issue and stand up for his constituents.
