Buddy Davis: Women have the edge when it comes to morality

I’ve just finished an informative book on George Armstrong Custer’s last stand: “Killing Custer.” The most riveting moments were the reactions of the females, both Indian and white, who lost loved ones in this historic battle. In many Lakota (Oglala, Hunkpapa, Minneconjou), southern Cheyenne and Arapaho lodges, women mired in despair sobbed throughout the night. Back at Fort Abraham Lincoln (in Bismarck, Dakota Terriroty) one can only imagine the grief the wives of the fallen soldiers felt upon receiving the devastating news.

This battle was absolutely unnecessary; this campaign absolutely immoral.

Which brings us to Afghanistan and Iraq, where over 5,000 precious American lives were lost for absolutely unnecessary and immoral justifications. To think that so many of us blindly swallowed the calculated lies of the Bush administration is a clear reflection of who we are. Apparently, we have learned nothing from the disastrous defeat of June 25, 1876 when Col. Custer and 210 of his men rode to their death.

The next time politicians clamor for invasion and occupation of a third-world people, let us hope the women of America stand as one and shout them down. When it comes to morality, females are undoubtedly superior to males.
