Diane Kroeze: Less water but still more almonds

The newspaper and other media are full of contradictions. One article says drought in California is terrible. Another says even more almond orchards are being planted. Another says cities must cut back 25 percent. There doesn’t seem to be much enforcement being done. Probably not enough people working at it as they have cut off those jobs. Another story says capitalism is what we are about and we can’t stop people from planting what they do, even if its detrimental to the state as a whole.

It does seem that making money is a No. 1 priority instead of having water to drink.

If you are a member of the wildlife population, forget water. A new word for this is specieism. Sort of like sexism, which is usually used in regards to women. In our capitalistic world, it seems religious power and money power have priority over all our lives – including the ones that breathe water or have feathers or fur. The trouble with priority lists is, all you have to do is lose your place on it and you immediately become less important. I think all of us should watch it closely.
