Bill Warner: Trans-Pacific deal could be dangerous to Americans
The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a secret free trade agreement that President Obama is negotiating with several Asian countries, including Japan and Vietnam. Some information released to Wikileaks reveals this agreement will give corporate lawyers authority to change our laws and encourage companies to move more middle-class jobs jobs to places like Vietnam. The corporate lawyers will be in charge of deciding if any U.S. law affects the future profits of their companies. If they decide that “Made in U.S.A.” or “Grown locally” might affect their profits, you will not be allowed to use this information on products that you make or grow.
They claim this is good for our country, just like NAFTA (North American Free-Trade Agreement).
Many of our congressman seem ready to fast-track the agreement, even though they can’t even review a copy of the agreement to see what’s in it.
I don’t understand why our representatives want to allow this deal when it may be more dangerous to our country than allowing Iran to get nukes.
