Diana Stenger: Ripon not alone, everyone is wasting water
Re “Ripon should enforce water rules” (Letters, April 17): I could not agree with the writer of the letter more. Misuse of water is not a unique habit in the community of Ripon, but is exhibited in all areas of the state. As I drive through other areas, I see water running off lawns and shrubbery going across sidewalks and down sewer drains. It does not matter if it is the Central Valley, South Bay, North Bay or Los Angeles. People in all areas are wasting water. To make an impact on this water shortage, every citizen of the state needs to do his or her part to conserve the water we have.
Our elected representatives should take a long and hard look at uses they are proposing for our water. One example of wasting water is the wildlife committee approval to use water from reservoirs to help restore fish habitat by increasing the flow in the rivers. By doing this we have decreased the limited water storage we have for agricultural and domestic uses. If this type of practice continues, we will curtail all agriculture in the state of California.
