Bill Wood: De-sal isn’t cheap, but neither is living without water

Like the great ship Titanic sinking, California is sinking into a drought. Our leaders in Sacramento are doing the equivalent of rearranging the deck chairs as they lurch ahead with High Speed Rail (HSR). I lived in Saudi Arabia for several years. Time between rain storms is measured in years. In Jeddah, on the west coast, they use desalination plants to create drinking water. It is not cheap, but it works. We recycled our waste water to have some water for the yards. We were not allowed a lawn, but we had a few bushes.

The state needs to re-evaluate its priorities. Spend our tax dollars to benefit all citizens by building a new series of de-sal plants and stop spending on HSR to benefit a relative few commuters.
