Susan Dorville: Drought could be a long one, let’s do something
It’s understandable that everyone is concerned about the lack of snowfall and rainfall these past four years, but no one has considered using water tanks or gray water. If the government is so concerned, demand that new housing have water tanks and be outfitted for gray-water use. Provide incentives for those who are willing to put in tanks for the lean years. Put a moratorium on new well drilling, particularly in areas where new orchards are being planted. This is just common sense. Demand drip irrigation systems to be installed in orchards by 2016. This drought will continue because of those who do not believe in global warming. It is a reality – let’s do something about it.
