Janet S. Ward: MPD’s internet report system broken, so is department’s response
Recently, the tailgate was stolen from our pickup while it was parked in our driveway. This was the fourth incident within a week in our eastern Modesto neighborhood.
As directed, initial contact to the Modesto Police Department was attempted via the internet. Despite several attempts on several days, each time I reached a certain point an error message occurred. Even when I attempted to contact the the police department by phone to file a report, a recorded message just asked me to leave a message. To date, nothing has been done and no contact has been made.
How is this serving the general public in stopping such crime or prevention? More needs to be done to address the needs of citizens who care about their property and who expect the police to be proactive in stopping it. I wonder if the tailgates of the police chief or the MPD officers were stolen what would be done? Would they be given the same malfunctioning internet direction or asked to leave a message?
More must be done to address crime so that issues that may seem small do not become large.
