Patricia Bowers: Too many people were on the lift device

Re “Patterson warehouse goes solar” (Page A1, April 11): The photo shows a Genie GS-5930 scissor lift being used to hold 11 people – double the allowed limit. These lifts are regulated by law. The manufacturer’s safety manual, found online, says “maximum capacity” for the GS-5390 is six. The photo shows almost double the limit.

Maybe OSHA should take notice of the photo and issue a citation to the employer who allowed this unsafe practice to occur. Same article, Page A-10, pictures Sheriff Adam Christianson present for this “installation of solar panels on a frozen food warehouse.” If law enforcement is so strapped for money that officers had to be terminated, putting our community at further risk, why is Christianson present for something that has nothing to do with protecting our county? Looks like someone needs to reign in the activities of the sheriff. He obviously isn’t doing anything about the safety of the excessive number of people on the lift.
