John Herlihy: Can’t conserve our way out of this drought
LiveScience’s Drought Monitor says that California is in for an extended drought period – as in a decade or longer. Our legislators have all the up-to-date info on the present drought and the impending extreme shortfall of water for the state. Yet the state still sends water down the steam to the ocean for environmental concerns. It is insane to put fish in a higher position than man.
The state is also allowing multi-thousand home subdivisions to be built in the deserts of southern California and in northern California and they have no new water. The state is allowing developers to build new houses that will lessen the amount of water current residents have. When will the inhabitants of this state realize that saving fish and building thousands of new homes are not the answer to our water crisis? We cannot conserve our way out of this drought.
