Mary L. Burch: (Gasp!) I agree with Trump on Electoral College

Re “Let the people pick their president” (Page 7A, Nov. 9): I agree with the view, I have written many letters on this subject of the Electoral College. I was surprised when I read about what Trump said in 2012, stating the Electoral College is a “disaster for democracy.” This is the only thing that I have ever heard him say that I agree with.

Defenders of the Electoral College argue that it was created to protect the interests of smaller states. Not only was this the intention, it also set up because all of us regular people out here weren’t considered not smart enough to vote for someone who could keep our country safe. Well, boy, did the Electoral College get a kick in the behind this time.

They voted in a complete nut. So good luck, Electoral College, you might not be around anymore to put us in this position of either being nuked or impeached – whichever comes first. I hope and pray us dumb citizens will find a way to have Trump impeached before he brings us to a nuclear war.
