Michael King: After taking NRA’s money, politicians will only wring their hands
Now that the usual suspects, from Trump on down, have issued their “our thoughts and prayers are with you” sound bites, the question of course is what can be done about the semi-automatic weapons that are being used in these mass attacks. The answer always comes back the same: “Not much.”
The gun industry and the leadership of the NRA have crammed so much money into the pockets of the people who are supposed to pass reasonable laws to protect us that it’s a wonder they can even stand up. The awful truth is that there is no limit to the number of deaths caused by this type of weapon that would cause the NRA, gun industry and elected officials to rethink their positions.
The Second Amendment was not created to protect this type of carnage nor was it created to allow hypocrites to hide behind it so they can have their toys and play army.
